Distributed Systems Group![]() ![]()
About our groupThe Distributed System research group conducts teaching and research into all aspects of distributed computing ranging from theoretical foundations to applied system and software engineering issues. Our current research focuses on middleware for quality-aware, adaptive distributed applications, self-managing distributed systems and semantic web technologies for distributed computing. Head of the research group is Prof. Dr. Kurt Geihs. The research group was established in 2004 as an endowment of Deutsche Bank AG and B. Braun Melsungen AG. News/Highlights2010-01-31: Annual report 2009 available The annual report of our research group for 2009 is available now (in German). 2009-07-08: VENUS shines over Kassel The proposal of the University of Kassel for a research cluster on "Design of techno-social networking applications in situative ubiquitous systems (VENUS)" was successfully evaluated and accepted as part of the hessian excellence program LOEWE. The state of Hessen will allocate a total budget of 4.2 M€ to the VENUS research compound. Six research groups are involved. A seventh one will be founded within the first year of VENUS. Prof. Geihs is the designated speaker of the project. The main innovation of the new research cluster will be a design methodology that takes interdisciplinary aspects into account right from the start of the software lifecycle. For more information visit the VENUS web pages. 2009-03-02: GI/ITG conference "Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen" KiVS (Communication in Distributed Systems) The KiVS 2009 will be hosted in Kassel. The research groups Distributed Systems and Communication Technology (ComTec) will organize this traditional event which belongs to the most renowned conferences on Distributed Systems in the German-speaking countries. For more details, have a look at the KiVS website.
Now already for the fourth time the SAKS workshop will be organized by the research groups of Distributed Systems and ComTec, this time in the context of the KiVS conference. It will take place at the same venue, the University of Kassel, and addresses topics like self-properties, adaptivity, and context-sensitivity of Distributed Systems.
